Material and Safety Information for Retailers

Retailer Information: Cinnamon Wood Chew – Safety and Material Explanation

Product nature and intended use

Bark & Root Cinnamon Wood Chew is a non-edible chew toy made from the natural wood of the cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum verum). It is intended for mechanical chewing activity, not for consumption as food.

The product.

  • is not a food or treat
  • contains no cinnamon powder, oil, or added substances
  • is made from solid wood material only
  • is untreated and uncoated

Dogs interact with the product through chewing, similar to other natural wood chew products such as coffee wood or olive wood chews already sold in the European pet market.

Clarification: cinnamon wood vs. cinnamon as a food ingredient

Concerns regarding cinnamon and dogs typically relate to ingestion of cinnamon powder or essential oil, which is different in form and exposure.

This product uses the structural wood of the cinnamon plant, which is:

  • chemically stable in solid form
  • not processed into powder or extract
  • not intended to be ingested
  • used only as a durable chewing substrate

As with any wood chew, small softened fibres may detach during chewing. This is a normal mechanical interaction and not equivalent to feeding cinnamon as an ingredient.

Safety and material testing

Each production follows a documented risk-based testing plan. Recent independent laboratory testing includes:

  • Mechanical integrity observations based on EN 71-1 methodology
  • Migration of elements testing based on EN 71-3 (wood material / Category III)
  • Pentachlorophenol (PCP) screening by GC-MS — Not detected
  • Formaldehyde testing — Not detected
  • Moisture content measurement — controlled within normal wood range

Manufacturing and sourcing

  • Raw material: Cinnamomum verum wood
  • Origin: Sri Lanka
  • Preparation: cleaning, drying, and sizing only
  • No chemical treatment, coating, or additives applied

Cinnamon wood used is a natural by-product of agricultural cinnamon cultivation.
